Cachette du Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo visited Paris in 1939 and the Parisians immediately fell in love with her. So if this collection mixes languages, c'est la vie.
This very special collection created by Michelle, inspired by the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo 1907-1954.
Frida loved color and her clothing, paintings and home exemplified the bold, bright and colorful world of Mexico in the 1920's ,'30's and '40's. Known for her up-do of long braided black hair topped with an explosion of flowers. One of the projects that can be made with the materials in the collection is a black braid wrapped headband topped with many vintage pink millinery Dahlias. Michelle has included two bunches of them so there will be pleanty.
Fourteen different ribbons are in the box, and one piece of red straw millinery braid. The ribbons range from an absolutely gorgeous 2" wide red and pink peony jacquard, an embroidered very Mexican vintage flower trim, red and orange striped silk and cotton grosgrain from France ties up the box, with a length inside as well. There is a yard of 2" wide black cotton English lace, a nice long length of Swedish embroidered cotton trim, a couple of yards of blue grosgrain ribbon, some yellow plaid silk taffeta and of course some red vintage ball fringe.
There are 8 vintage appliques, too delicate to sew with but great to glue onto cards or collages, a dozen wooden buttons in red and yellow, three hammered brass buckles, and a piece of striped madras fabric. If you are inspired to create with paper you will find some black Dresden swan wings, golden antlers and red rose corners, great for attaching to some basic manilla tags with included Frida images and quotes. There is even a metal milagro depicting a winged heart.
No collection with a Mexican theme would be complete without a papel picado garland, and materials for making crepe paper flowers, and paper party cups ready to decorate with vintage scrap images.
